Advent and Fear

Today at Christ Church Las Vegas we hear from Matthew chapter 2. Herod’s actions can only be understood in relation to fear. He orders the death of the children because he is afraid of this child growing up and becoming king. He’s afraid of what it would mean for him and for his house if this child survives. So when the Magi double cross him out of fear, he orders that all the male babies under two be killed. He doesn’t want anyone to rule other than him.
